One Hundred Year Old Mystery Solved
In 2020, I ran a competition to solve the mystery of the wording on a memorial stone lying beside the Granny Kempock Stone. The Original Competition is given below and amazingly the wording has been found!
All you have to do is transcribe the inscription on the marble memorial stone. It can be found at the base of Granny Kempock.
To give you a clue, it is in memory of Friedrich Zoller, who is in the book, and is written in German. The top part of the memorial stone says: REM ANDENKEN EINES GELelEHRTEN (in memory of a scholar) J.C.P. Friedrich Zoller …..den FEB 1849(sic) GEST (Died) PIA …M… Zoller was the Belgian Consul in Glasgow, but his family came from Frankfurt. What does the bottom part say?

Translated broadly, the above reads:-
To the memory of my dear father,
I.G.P. Friedrich Zoller.
Born, 14th Feb, 1769 Died, 2nd June 1837
He was my guide upon the path
On which my feet should tread,
My weaknesses he bore unto himself
Wherever a stumble led.
Father, to him who loved me so
Let Thou his kindness live
And if I ever hurt his heart,
Oh, Father, do forgive.
Once with Thee we shal gladly meet
again, and eternally worship Thee.
